< Back to Tanglewood Legends About Shar Every story has a beginning, and the story of Tanglewood Giant Schnauzers begins with our girl, Shar. My Mother and Father were just looking for a pet for our farm when they, by accident, discovered this incredible breed. In the 1960's, there was no Animal Planet, watching Westminster on the second Monday and Tuesday in February and the Internet was still a long ways off. So you had to get out there and look, read, meet people and hope you came across the breed that best suited your family. When Shar entered our lives, I was 3 years old. I still remember the day she came to our home, my sisters and I were so excited because we thought our parents had come home with a black sheep dog. She was quite “hairy” to say the least, but she immediately took to our family (often my little sister used her as a pillow) and she was quite watchful of my older sister and I. Shar accomplished many honors in the show ring including Best Producing Bitch of the Year. Her sons and daughters and grandsons and granddaughters went on to many Best In Shows and group placements. Her son, Tony, went on to a Giant Schnauzer Club of America National Championship and a Group Placement at Westminster Kennel Club. Although Shar was born in 1968 her name still appears in pedigrees of top show Giants today. She is still remembered by many, not only in this country but in Canada as well. Shar is the definition of the word Legend and she will go down in history as one of the Great producing Giant Schnauzer bitches of any era. I doubt anyone could have predicted how that summer day in 1969 Shar Ebony would impact the rest of my life. |
